Catch up on the ISEP London & South East webinar: A Case Study on Scope 3 Emissions Rewatch this engaging webinar from ISEP London & South East, where members and non-members from around the world came together to explore the challenges and opportunities associated with measuring and managing Scope 3 emissions. The session featured Anna-Lisa Mills, Executive Director at SmartCarbon and Sustainability Manager at Newcastle Hospitals. Anna-Lisa shared insights from a project to recalculate Newcastle Hospitals’ base year carbon footprint in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. The work resulted in a 43% increase in the republished footprint figures due to improved accuracy and completeness of data reporting processes, providing a more robust baseline against which to measure progress towards Net Zero targets. With emissions from purchased goods and services accounting for more than 85% of the Hospital’s total carbon footprint, Anna-Lisa highlighted the importance of engaging suppliers and improving Scope 3 data quality. She discussed the development of a multi-award-winning five-step Net Zero Supplier Framework, designed to support and engage suppliers through access to practical tools, a free carbon calculator, checklists, and reporting guidance. Suppliers are required to report their carbon performance, reduction targets, and Carbon Reduction Plans through a dedicated supplier dashboard. The framework has successfully engaged more than 850 supply chain companies and has been adopted by the North East Healthcare Alliance, comprising four NHS Trusts, as well as local authority partners including Newcastle City Council. Anna-Lisa also shared lessons from the region’s most recent sustainable supplier event, co-hosted with the North East Combined Authority and local authority partners, which attracted more than 300 delegates. Watch the recording to revisit this insightful case study and learn how organisations can improve the accuracy of Scope 3 reporting while supporting suppliers on their journey towards Net Zero.
