Nature recovery & rewilding

Catch up on the ISEP London & South East webinar: Nature Recovery & Rewilding Watch this inspiring webinar from ISEP London & South East, where members and non-members from around the world came together to explore how rewilding principles can transform urban landscapes and create thriving spaces for both people and wildlife. The session featured Elliot Newton, Naturalist, conservationist and rewilder, and Co-founder and Director of Rewilding at Citizen Zoo. Elliot shared insights from pioneering urban conservation projects that are demonstrating how nature recovery can successfully take place within towns and cities, delivering lasting environmental, social, and community benefits. Drawing on Citizen Zoo’s innovative work, Elliot explored a range of practical approaches to restoring biodiversity, including the reintroduction of beavers to Zone 4 London, the restoration of water voles to the capital’s rivers, and the use of conservation grazing to support natural ecological processes. These projects highlight how wildlife recovery can flourish in urban environments when nature is given the space and support to thrive. The webinar also showcased the importance of placing local communities at the heart of conservation efforts. Elliot discussed how engagement, collaboration, and long-term stewardship are essential to creating resilient ecosystems and ensuring that urban nature recovery delivers benefits for both biodiversity and people. Attendees gained valuable insights into how rewilding can be applied in practical ways, from restoring habitats and supporting species recovery to creating greener, healthier places that enhance wellbeing and strengthen connections between communities and the natural world. Watch the recording to revisit this insightful session and discover how organisations, communities, and individuals can help create greener, wilder, and more resilient cities through nature recovery and rewilding.
