  • 1. Understanding PAS 2080 - Carbon Management in Infrastructure
  • 2. Innovation through Circulation for PCs and Laptops
  • 3. Sustainable Procurement in Practice: Measuring Social Value in Public Sector Tenders

PAS 2080 is increasingly becoming the industry standard for carbon management in infrastructure, providing a framework to reduce emissions across the entire lifecycle of built environment projects. It applies to all key stakeholders—including clients, designers, contractors, and operators—driving collaboration to meet net-zero goals.

Whilst not 'new', adoption has been rapidly increasing.

National Highways have mandated their core supply chain be compliant before 2026 (within the next 7 months) and a number of other agencies, bodies are currently conducting gap analyses ahead of announcing similar (anticipated) compliance requirements for their supply chains.

This includes the Environment Agency, Network Rail and the National Grid, amongst others.

In this session, we’ll explore:

  • What PAS 2080 is: A structured approach to decarbonising infrastructure, from planning to delivery.
  • Who it impacts: Asset owners, supply chains, and policymakers must align to cut embodied and operational carbon.
  • Why it matters: With infrastructure responsible for ~50% of UK emissions, PAS 2080 is critical for compliance, cost efficiency, and climate resilience.

We will also be joined by Matthew Pygott (MISEP), Head of Net Zero at SpeedyHire who has just been through the PAS 2080 process and will also be providing thoughts.

Join us to gain actionable insights, understand your role in the carbon value chain, and learn how PAS 2080 can future-proof projects.

The world is buying more and more PCs every year. 255.5 million were shipped globally in 2024, almost 4% more than the previous year. The manufacture of these machines equates to 76.65 million kilos of CO2e at a conservative estimate… and they are usually retired in three years. But what if it didn’t have to be this way?

What if there was real time monitoring software that allowed businesses to extend assets’ lifetime to 6 years, by passing them along, repairing and upgrading? And what if they identify the best buys for the way they use computers? These are the ideas behind a Knowledge Transfer Project research project run by corporate member Techbuyer and the University of Hull. The team presents the learning so far on this open sourced project and how ISEP members can get involved in the next stages.

Meet the Panel:

Astrid Wynne, Head of Sustainability, AI & Automation, Techbuyer

Bilal Khan, KTP Associate, Techbuyer

Nour Rteil, Technical Lead, Techbuyer

May 2024

  • 1. A Journey of Benchmarking and Professional Development in Healthcare
  • 2. Nature Recovery Networks
  • 3. DSI Update

Led by Dr. Shamir Ghumra, Executive Director of Responsible Business at NHS Property Services, and featuring panel members Heidi Barnard and Ian Stenton from NHS Supply Chain and NHS England, this session will delve into the critical role of sustainability teams in healthcare.

During this session, you will hear about invaluable resources and tools developed in collaboration with NHS Estates and NHS Supply Chain. Gain insights into career opportunities within sustainability and support for upskilling your staff and align with the NHS' ambitious goal of becoming the world's first net zero health system by 2040.

As outlined in the 2021 Dasgupta Review; ‘Our economies, livelihoods and well-being all depend on our most precious asset: Nature’. Yet the UK is in the bottom 10% countries in the world for nature loss. We need to move beyond the approach of conserving small pockets of wildlife-rich sites towards nature restoration, enabling ‘bigger, better, more, and more joined up’ spaces for nature. This is why the government committed to creating a Nature Recovery Network; an ecological network of wildlife-rich sites across the country – across our towns, cities, countryside and coast – that will help us address the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss, whilst supporting health, wellbeing and livelihoods.

Natural England, the government’s advisor on nature, is facilitating partnerships to deliver against the Nature Recovery Network ambition. We recognise that delivery needs a whole society approach - with contributions from both the public and private sector. We also know that nature is rising up the agenda for many businesses alongside climate, and we want to work with businesses to understand how we can help to make the opportunities to engage with nature restoration more visible, and how we can best learn to speak the same language and unlock the opportunities that meet both the needs of nature and of businesses. This session we will be talking about some of the opportunities that we care exploring and would welcome both your feedback and gauge interest in engaging more closely with our work as we progress these ideas. One of these initiatives is a recently launched platform called Projects for Nature, which is trailing an approach to match businesses with nature recovery projects. If this is something your organisation might be interested in, please do register your interest here: Participate – Nature conservation | Projects for Nature

The Diverse Sustainability Initiative (DSI)* shared an inclusion survey with both their People of Colour (PoC) Network and LGBTQIA+ Network. We wanted to share some of the barriers the networks shared and how we as organisations can become more inclusive. The CEOs of our partner organisations also recently received a talk by the CEO from TouchStone Support, an organisation that is in the top three most inclusive places to work, I’ll be sharing some of the tips that were shared with our CEOs.

*The DSI is an initiative that ISEP created in March 2021 to diversify the environment and sustainability profession due the statistics highlighting the lack of racial diversity and inclusion. We have 40 partners who have made a public commitment on the website to highlight what they will do to improve the lack of diversity. We support partners by educating them with external consultants, connecting them with other partners and sharing best and bad practice to encourage peer to peer learning. As a DSI partner you can expect lots of events (face-to-face and virtual) networking opportunities and free resources. It’s free to join as a DSI partner, if you’re interested, please email info@diversesustainability.net.

Following the purpose project we ran in 2023, join us for an interactive workshop to help shape the future look of ISEP as a professional institute.

We are looking at how we can strengthen our brand and the way we talk about what we do to all our audiences. A vital perspective is that of our corporate partners. Initially we'll be concentrating on the core ISEP brand and would deeply appreciate your perspectives on what we do. A vital part of the project will be our Corporate Partnership brand and ensuring that our brand supports this. We will use our session to feed into the core ISEP brand, the first stage, and also to open up the conversation on how it adds value to partnerships, which we will look at in more detail in the second stage of the project.

The climate crisis impacts the communities and people who are often least able to influence and enact meaningful change. As our organisations plan and build strategies to decarbonise their operations and value chains, we also need to ensure our strategic approaches account for the most vulnerable communities in society.

Join ISEP corporate partners for a panel discussion on climate vulnerability and resilience.
