It’s easy to join. If you have graduated from a relevant degree in the last 3 years you will be eligible for Graduate Membership. For your degree to support your eligibility you will need to have studied a significant level of sustainability content. Simply provide proof of graduation at point of application, use the checklist to confirm the relevant content and you are well on your way to achieving GradISEP.
You must provide proof of graduation (from within 3 years of today’s date).
There must be sustainability content within your degree, as matched to the following six criteria:

Renewing your GradISEP could not be easier. Simply log into MyISEP, view and pay your invoice via the 'Invoices' tab, and confirm that you are continuing to adhere to your CPD commitment. You will then be able to carry on accessing all of your membership benefits

Different people like to learn in different ways which is why we offer two routes to achieving Associate membership. If you already have the appropriate environment and sustainability knowledge then the direct study route allows you to register for the Associate exam. If, however, you prefer a course that is delivered either in a classroom or through e-learning there is an approach to learning that works for you via an ISEP approved training partner.
There are two ways of achieving Associate membership:
If you are new to the environmental and sustainability sectors, or you need a refresh, then we can prepare you with everything you need to know with our Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management. This course provides a great way for you to get a foothold and demonstrate your competence in this kind of work. Delivered either in a classroom or through e-learning there is an approach to learning that works for you.

If you already have the appropriate environment and sustainability knowledge you can apply directly with us to take the Associate Direct Entry Exam.
*Please note, the Direct Study route assumes you will do your own research and study to ensure you meet the leaning outcomes and criteria detailed within the Associate Membership standard document. We do not provide specific revision materials for this route.
The Associate Direct Entry Exam is a 30-question multiple choice exam which will take 1 hour to complete.
You can choose whether to take the Environmental or Sustainability version of the exam based on your individual skills and knowledge.

Once you have made your application a member of the team will be in touch to confirm receipt of your application, which version of the exam you wish to take and when you would like to sit the exam. (Exams are issued on a weekly basis)
Are there any exemptions available?
If within the last three years you have completed the ISEP Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management course, then you will be eligible to fast-track your application. When you apply, you’ll need to select that you are eligible to fast-track and upload a valid copy of your course certificate that falls within this timeframe.

If you are an existing Associate member looking to renew online, simply log into the website to access your MyISEP area and then click on the 'Payments' tab - you will also need to confirm that you are continuing to adhere to your CPD commitment. You will then be able to carry on accessing all of your membership benefits.

Online exam and a written submission.
If you already have experience in an environment and sustainability role you can apply for Practitioner membership directly with ISEP. This involves completing an online exam which, once passed, is then followed by a written case study assessment. Our Practitioner Assessors will review your assessment and once they are happy you meet the Practitioner Standard, you will be able to use the PISEP suffix.
Certified Course – Complete the ISEP Certificate in Environmental Management course via an ISEP approved training partner. After the course you must complete three knowledge-based assignments which is administered and marked via the training partner delivering the course.

Direct Study - If you already have the appropriate environment and sustainability knowledge, you can complete an online, one-hour multiple choice exam, assessing that you have the level of knowledge required of a Practitioner member. This is administered by ISEP.

Eligible to fast-track? If within the last three years you have completed an ISEP approved degree then you can apply for an exemption to the exam, meaning you will fast-track straight to the written assessment of competence.
Written Assessment of Competence (Written Submission) - Once you have successfully completed one of the routes above, ISEP will contact you via email to complete your written assessment of competence.
Within the assessment of competence, you will be required to submit written evidence of up to four case studies demonstrating how you apply your environment and sustainability knowledge and skills in the workplace, to the level required in the Practitioner standard. Each of your case studies will need to be verified by a witness, which could be a manager, colleague or client.
You will be given 3 months from the date of receiving your confirmation email from us to submit your written assessment of competence.

Practitioner Membership Standard: ISEP memberships are based on competency standards. The Practitioner member standard outlines the learning outcomes, assessment criteria and prescribe content. Webinar: This webinar will discuss the competencies of a Practitioner member and the application process via the Direct Study route, as well as giving you hints and tips for achieving PISEP.
Practitioner Assessment Guidance Document: We have developed a guidance document which includes example case studies to provide you with hints and tips for completing your assessment of competence. When crafting your written submission, make sure you refer to this guidance document as well as the Practitioner member standard to ensure you cover all the competencies.
Practitioner Assessment Form: Once you have applied either online or via a Training Provider, and completed the first step of your application, you will need to complete your written assessment of competence on the template we’ve created for you. This will help you structure your assessment.
Application Verification Form: When you’ve have completed your written assessment of competence, you will need to identify someone who can verify your account of what happened and the role you played, as written within your case studies. This form will need to be completed by your verifiers and sent back to ISEP.

The Registered Environmental Practitioner (REnvP) designation is an accreditation which recognises the level of professional practice of people operating within the environmental sector, aligning with ISEP’s Practitioner level membership.
It signifies a standard of environmental expertise, practice, and skills held by professionals spanning the breadth of academia, government, industry, consultancy, and other public and private sectors.
You can apply for Registered Environmental Practitioner (REnvP) if you are an existing Practitioner of ISEP (PISEP). Alternatively you can apply for the REnvP at the same time with your application to PISEP.
Full membership of ISEP is the gold standard for environment and sustainability professionals who are setting agendas and leading initiatives within their organisations. If you’re working to turn a sustainability vision into action then we’re right with you. And as part of the worldwide community of ISEP Full members, you can expect to build a more influential network, accelerate your career and enhance your earning potential.
If you are working in a role which is largely focused on Environmental Management or similar, the dual accreditation of Full with Chartered Environmentalist (MISEP CEnv) may be the best route for you.
If you work in a social or economic oriented role, you could explore your option of gaining CEnv status to decide whether it’s right for you (the assessment process is the same for either option). If you feel it’s an accreditation you don’t need then you are free to go ahead and apply for Full membership on its own.
*To be eligible for Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), you must be an Existing Full or Fellow ISEP member

To register your application, complete the online application and pay the application fee.
Submit your supporting documents (written submission, CV, verification form, and photographic identification) within four weeks.
The Membership Team will send your documents to one of our Full Member Assessors for an initial review and will then arrange your interview.
Your interview will take place at a time which suits both yourself and your Assessors. The interview itself will last no longer than 90 minutes.
Finally, your overall result will be sent to you within six weeks of your interview.
Once you have applied online, you’ll need to start working on the written submission part of your assessment. This is due four weeks from the day of your online application submission, so don’t delay.

Don’t forget, you should refer to each of the competencies of the Full Member Standard as you write your written submission to ensure you’re on the right track.
The interview is a peer-to-peer discussion with two of ISEP's Full Member Assessors. You'll discuss your knowledge and experience as they relate to the 13 competencies of the Full Membership Standard, the Code of Professional Conduct and your Continued Professional Development (CPD) goals. Your interview will take place online via Microsoft Teams so you don't need to make any costly or inconvenient travel arrangements.
If your Assessors are satisfied that you meet all of the competencies outlined in the Full Membership Standard, you will achieve MISEP (and CEnv if applicable) status.

The Sustainability Skills Map and subsequent membership standards will help you align your skills, knowledge and experience to the most appropriate grade. The ISEP Membership Mentoring Scheme is a free service; another option if you feel you need a little more help and guidance.
Let us know if you’re interested and we’ll match you with a Mentor – someone who has already achieved Full Membership and is equipped to help you on your journey towards reaching that same goal.
Over 3-6 months you will have regular calls and e-mail catch-ups with your Mentor as they guide you towards your goal. It’s a great way to take the next step in your career with the support of someone who’s experienced the finer details of the process, and successfully achieved MISEP.

This route is ideal if you want one-to-one, clear, friendly and expert guidance from someone who knows the standard and the application process inside out. They’ll review your draft paper, give you hints and tips for making it even better and talk you through the process, answering any questions you have about what to expect, taking the worry out of your upgrade.
