The reporting recommendations from the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), published last year, is one of the new frameworks aimed at helping business integrate nature into business decision-making.

Partly funded by the UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the TNFD is a framework for reporting impacts and dependencies, and risks and opportunities, in relation to nature.

There is a large amount of interest in the recommendations provided by the TNFD to better manage nature-related risks. However, the framework and surrounding information can sometimes seem dense and foreboding.

This is why the Biodiversity and Natural Capital Network at ISEP have produced a new paper:  Business actions on TNFD: A primer on roles and reporting using the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures Framework.

As the name suggests the paper is a primer on roles and reporting using the disclosure recommendations and guidance of the TNFD framework and aims to:

  • Provide a short introduction to the framework and signpost resources
  • Show where/how different sustainability and environmental roles are likely to encounter and engage with the TNFD as part of their work
  • Answer some frequently asked questions.

Business Actions on TNFD both sets the scene for using TNFD, point to key resources – policy and practical – and takes the reader through business roles and ISEP membership levels and  considers how different sustainability professionals will engage with the framework.

Written by Dr Stephanie Hime, Director at Sustainability Consultancy | Little Blue Research, and Marina Bradford, Director at Bemari, this new paper sets out to give professionals a ‘foot up’ by helping them to understand the context of the TNFD, what the TNFD is about and how it helps business, allowing them to be confident in using this new framework and start to effectively manage their nature-related risks.

Prior to publishing this paper ISEP were delighted to work with TNFD to create a webinar, based on this paper, for ISEP members. You can view it on our Watch Again site.

ISEP members can download their copy of Developing Skills for Adaptation here

Non-ISEP members can purchase the document from our online shop (under 'Biodiversity & Natural Capital')
