On Thursday 17 July 2025, we officially launched our new identity as the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP)

It’s a bold new name for a profession that’s no longer on the fringes but at the very centre of global efforts to build a better future. While this rebrand represents a major milestone, it’s more than just a new name and visual identity. It’s about giving our members the recognition, clarity and credibility they deserve in a changing world.

So, what does this transformation mean for you as a member? Here are five key benefits of the rebrand and why it matters now more than ever.

  1. A name that clearly reflects who we are and what we do

One of the strongest messages we heard throughout our two-year consultation was that the name IEMA no longer reflected the full scope of our work or the evolving roles of our members. As sustainability becomes embedded across industries, it was time for a name that made our purpose crystal clear.

The Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP) says exactly who we are. No jargon, no assumptions – just clarity. This not only makes it easier for the outside world to understand what we do, but strengthens your professional identity too.

Our expanded narrative elevates the external understanding of the profession. It demonstrates that our members play a huge role in environmental management, but also social and economic sustainability. It gives recognition to some of the work currently underway by members and also opens global opportunities.

  1. Stronger professional recognition

With our new name and renewed purpose, we’re not just keeping pace with change, we’re defining what good looks like across the profession.

Whether you’re influencing policy, driving best practice in business, or delivering change in your own community, the ISEP name and post-nominals (like AISEP, PISEP, MISEP and FISEP) offer clear, consistent recognition of your expertise and contribution. This gives you credibility that’s instantly recognisable across sectors, countries and audiences.

  1. A united voice for a growing profession

ISEP brings together more than 20,000 professionals across 125 countries. People working in every sector, at every level, and on every kind of sustainability and environmental challenge.

Our rebrand gives this community a stronger, more visible identity. Together, we are the professional voice on sustainability and the environment, and the clarity of our new brand helps amplify that voice where it matters most: in government, in business, and across society.

  1. Greater opportunities to grow, connect and lead

Our new identity is future-focused, just like you. As a member, you’ll continue to access world-class training, professional guidance, cutting-edge insight and the global connections that help you grow your career and influence.

But the rebrand also helps open new doors by creating a clearer offer for new members, expanding our partnerships, and increasing awareness of the vital role our profession plays in shaping a more sustainable world.

  1. A profession ready for the future

We know the challenges ahead are complex. But they require experts like you with the skills, standards and support to lead change with confidence.

This rebrand is part of a bigger strategic shift to ensure we are fit for the future: one that positions sustainability and environmental professionals at the forefront of global transformation. Whether you’re just starting out or leading the way, ISEP is here to support you to thrive.

This is your profession. This is your moment.

ISEP is about empowering you to become a global changemaker – to transform the world today for a sustainable tomorrow. With a stronger, clearer, and more visible identity, we’re better equipped to champion the profession you’re proud to be part of.

Thank you to every member who helped shape this change. Together, we’ve built something that will help us go further, and make a bigger impact, than ever before.
