In a sector where environmental challenges are increasingly at the forefront, Mitie took a bold step by becoming the UK’s first facilities management company accredited as an Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professional (ISEP) Training Centre. This move not only strengthened Mitie’s own sustainability credentials, but also offers a blueprint for others to follow—across FM and beyond.

Why It Matters

The built environment is inherently dependent on the health of the natural world. As such, addressing environmental challenges must extend beyond internal initiatives to transforming estates into low carbon, productive assets — it requires a collaborative, cross-sector approach. Recognising this, Mitie joined ISEP as a corporate partner in FY23, gaining access to leading expertise and tools to upskill its people and influence wider change.

But Mitie hasn't stopped there. By the end of FY25, it will be among the first organisations in the UK to achieve decarbonisation across Scopes 1 and 2, operate one of Europe’s largest zero-emission vehicle fleets, and deliver industry-leading decarbonisation services to hundreds of customers. Taking its commitment even further, Mitie has become an ISEP Training Centre—offering certified sustainability training not only to its own employees, but also to clients and partners across its supply chain.

A Model for Others

This approach represents a powerful shift in how organisations can lead on sustainability by leading, doing and teaching. Rather than viewing environmental responsibility as an internal goal alone, Mitie is using its position to educate and empower those it works with—helping drive systemic change across the industry.

“We’re committed to providing diverse environmental services, and our partnership with ISEP and Training Centre status are great examples. Together, we aim to deliver for our customers, reducing their costs and impact on the environment.”

By sharing knowledge and certified training, Mitie is helping clients and suppliers embed environmental thinking into their operations, improve compliance, and take meaningful steps toward decarbonisation.

Why Your Organisation Should Consider It

Whether you’re in facilities management, construction, manufacturing, recruitment, retail, or professional services—sustainability is a shared challenge. Becoming an ISEP Training Centre or partnering with one enables your organisation to:

- Upskill your teams and partners with credible, industry-recognised training.

- Support your clients’ sustainability goals and add value beyond your core offering.

- Build resilience across your supply chain by embedding environmental best practice.

- Demonstrate leadership in ESG and sustainability, enhancing your brand and competitive edge.

Mitie's work is a practical example of how organisations can go beyond compliance and CSR statements to deliver real-world impact. In an era of increasing regulatory and stakeholder expectations, the ability to educate and collaborate on sustainability is not just a differentiator—it’s a necessity.

By becoming both an ISEP corporate partner and a certified ISEP Training Centre, Mitie has fully embedded environmental leadership into its strategy—equipping not only its own people, but also clients and supply chain partners with the tools to drive meaningful change. This dual commitment demonstrates how a joined-up approach to partnership and training can accelerate sustainability across sectors.

By adopting a similar approach, your organisation can not only meet its own environmental targets, but also become a catalyst for broader change—helping to future-proof your industry, support clients’ ambitions, and play a vital role in building a sustainable future.
