ISEP Evidence Included in Influential Report on Energy Efficiency

Findings from ISEP research features within Carbon Connect's report launched today.

Research and findings from ISEP research features within an influential new report launched at the House of Commons today (Tuesday 1st March).

Carbon Connect's report entitled Energy Efficiency: The Untapped Business Opportunity uses evidence from ISEP's 2010 GHG Management & Reporting Special Report to support its own findings. The report also draws on the findings of three evidence sessions where individuals organisations and business leaders presented information on the challenges of improving energy efficiency the greening of energy supply and the finance and implementation of projects.

The report has already been welcomed by Chris Huhne Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change and ISEP.

Nick Blyth Senior Adviser at ISEP presented evidence from ISEP's Special Report at the sessions including ISEP's GHG management hierarchy as a strategic policy framework along with survey results from ISEP members on the unique contribution of company GHG reporting. He also advocated the essential role that environmental practitioners play in this issue during his presentation.

Carbon Connect's report draws on this information along with wider industry and specialist evidence and makes 15 recommendations to Government many of which compliment ISEP's recommendations on mandatory reporting. The key recommendations include:

  • Government should introduce a mandatory greenhouse gas reporting requirement for large companies from 2012
  • Government should develop a single framework for UK businesses to use to report their greenhouse gas emissions. This could be based on the 2009 Defra/DECC 'Guidance on how to measure and report your greenhouse gas emissions'

Carbon Connect's report marks further recognition of ISEP members' views across the mandatory carbon reporting issue and the value of our shared voice. Keep an eye out for future opportunities to give us your views via one of ISEP's surveys or consultations so that we can keep influencing Government and making a real difference together.
