There are two ways to achieve PISEP membership:
- Via the Certified ‘Certificate in Sustainability and Environmental Management’ training course.
- Via the Direct Study route whereby you undertake the assessment having completed your own research and learning (you will need to source your own learning materials to help you prepare for the exam. Guided learning materials are only available if you take the Certificate in Sustainability and Environmental Management training course).
Different people like to learn in different ways which is why we offer two routes to achieving Practitioner membership.
If you already have the appropriate sustainability and environmental knowledge, then the direct study route allows you to register to complete the online exam and written case study assessment with ISEP.
If, however, you prefer a training course that is delivered either in a classroom or through e-learning, there is an approach to learning that works for you via an ISEP approved training partner.
If within the last three years you have completed either the ISEP Certificate in Sustainability and Environmental Management course or an ISEP approved degree then you will be eligible to fast-track your application. When you apply, you will need to select that you are eligible to fast-track and upload a valid copy of your course/degree certificate that falls within the 3 year timeframe.
Applying via a Certified Course
Three knowledge based assignments and a written submission.
We can prepare you with everything you need to know with our Certificate in Sustainability and Environmental Management course. Delivered either in a classroom, through e-learning or work-based learning there is an approach to learning that works for you.

Applying via Direct Study
Online exam and a written submission.
If you already have experience in an environment and sustainability role you can apply for Practitioner membership directly with ISEP. This involves completing an online exam which, once passed, is then followed by a written case study assessment. Our Practitioner Assessors will review your assessment and once they are happy you meet the Practitioner Standard, you will be able to use the PISEP suffix.
What is the difference between the exam versions?
Those who wish to take the environment exam will be assessed on only the environment related learning outcomes but those who wish to take the sustainability exam will be assessed on the environment and socio-economic related learning outcomes.
Applying via a Level 6 or 7 Apprenticeship
If you’ve completed either the Level 6 or Level 7 apprenticeship in England in the last 2 years, it’s the perfect time to take that next step. You’ve already done the hard work… let your membership reflect it.
We are currently exploring a dedicated online application route for apprenticeship graduates to apply for Practitioner and REnvP.
In the meantime, please contact us directly at info@isepglobal.net with a copy of your Apprenticeship Completion Certificate from the Department of Education and our team will guide you through the simple process to gain your professional membership and registration.
